Rowena P. Jancorda, LLB (Dean of Student Welfare ) “Becoming a teacher is not my ambition, but through the years I learned to love my profession and even enjoy it, “this is what I always tell my students and those who ask me about my ambition in life. Becoming a mentor to the next generation of leaders and citizens of our nation is a great challenge already, how much more looking after of safeguarding their welfare. This is the main task of being the Dean of the Students Welfare I did not imagine myself doing this task. For me, this is more demanding than mentoring them now to become productive citizen of this nation. Frankly speaking, when this position was offered to me, I said no because I know how immense the responsibilities and challenges that come along with such position. I also thought that, I’ll be dealing with a variety of more mature and even immature persons whose minds are sealed with what they think are correct and influenced by the society. Therefore, I think, it is more tedious as far as I can imagine it. This is the very reason why it took me sometime and series of persuasion and consideration before I really said yes to the offer. Since May 2012 when I assumed the position, at first I really find it annoying and frustrating since I have to dig previous documents and process hot these things are being done, there are students telling me that this is the usual practice so why change it. I have to be acquainted with the student’s rights without compromising the rules and regulations of the school. Being in the position is very tiresome intellectually, physically and even emotionally or psychologically and even more challenging however interesting.Well, I think there are a lot of styles in dealing with students’ issues situations vary. What I always put in my mind with isseus. |
